Michael Buble keeps "Christmas" No. 1 for 3rd week (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) ? Michael Buble held off stiff competition from new releases by the Black Keys and Amy Winehouse, as his holiday album "Christmas" retained the top spot on the Billboard 200 album chart on Wednesday for the third consecutive week.

Grammy-winning blues-rock duo Black Keys entered the chart at No. 2 with their seventh studio album "El Camino," which earned solid critical praise from critics, with Rolling Stone's Will Hermes calling it "the Keys' grandest pop gesture yet."

British singer Adele, who made Billboard history after becoming the first female artist to score triple honors with top single, album and artist, dropped to No. 3, while pop singer Justin Bieber dropped one place to No. 4 with his festive album "Under the Mistletoe."

Amy Winehouse's posthumous album "Lioness: Hidden Treasures" debuted at No. 5 on the chart after selling 114,000 copies in the U.S.

The release topped the U.K. album chart last week, and the singer's father Mitch Winehouse posted on Twitter that he was "bursting with pride."

"Glee: The Music, Season 3: Volume 7," the latest compilation album from the cast of Fox's TV series "Glee," entered the chart at No. 9. It was lowest debut sales week for any of the regular "Glee" season releases, reflecting a sharp drop in 18-49 viewers for the TV show this fall.

California nu-metal band Korn sold 55,000 copies of their latest album "The Path of Totality," in the first week to debut at No. 10.

LMFAO's "Sexy and I Know It" knocked Bruno Mars' "It Will Rain" to No. 4 from the top spot of the Billboard Digital Songs chart, while Rihanna's 'We Found Love" held steady at No. 2 and "We Are Young" by the "Glee" cast debuted at No. 3, with Flo Rida's "Good Feeling" rounding out the top five.

Oil hovers above $100 ahead of OPEC meeting (AP)

SINGAPORE ? Oil prices hovered above $100 a barrel Wednesday in Asia amid expectations OPEC will likely keep its output quotas unchanged.

Benchmark crude for January delivery was down 10 cents to $100.04 a barrel in midday Singapore time in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract rose $2.37 to settle at $100.14 on Tuesday.

In London, Brent crude was down 47 cents at $109.03 on the ICE futures exchange.

The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries will meet later Wednesday in Vienna amid a slowing global economy threatened by rising energy costs. The 12-nation group will also seek to avoid a supply glut as Libya's oil exports gradually recover next year.

"The cartel will be threading a fine line between any decision that would further elevate prices and at the same time, making some attempt to accommodate a return of Libyan barrels into the market," energy consultant Ritterbusch and Associates said in a report.

Crude jumped Tuesday after Iranian officials said the OPEC member plans to carry out military maneuvers near the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow pass in the Persian Gulf where about 30 percent of the world's crude exports pass through. Iran said it could retaliate if Europe imposes sanctions because of the country's nuclear power program.

"Rising tensions in the Middle East have been providing support to elevated prices and any provocative activity in the region would most likely launch prices quickly upward," said Richard Soultanian of NUS Consulting.

A report showed U.S. energy supplies were little changed last week. The American Petroleum Institute said late Tuesday that crude inventories rose 462,000 barrels last week while analysts surveyed by Platts, the energy information arm of McGraw-Hill Cos., had predicted a decrease of 2.0 million barrels.

Inventories of gasoline fell 12,000 barrels last week while distillates rose 1.2 million barrels, the API said.

The Energy Department's Energy Information Administration reports its weekly supply data later Wednesday.

In other energy trading on the Nymex, natural gas fell 3.6 cents at $3.24 per 1,000 cubic feet. Heating oil fell 0.7 cent to $2.92 a gallon and gasoline futures slid 0.6 cent to $2.62 a gallon.

Leighton Meester No Longer Being Sued By Mom

Leighton Meester can breathe a little easier this holiday season, now that mom Constance Meester has jettisoned a gargantuan $3 million lawsuit against her daughter.

Connie stated that she "sacrificed her happiness" to help Leighton pursue acting and the Gossip Girl star is legally bound to support her, E! News has confirmed.

She's now backing off, but is Leighton ready to do the same?

The actress' attorney says that she is still seeking a judgment against Constance that will state, in no uncertain terms, that she does not owe her mom any support.

"Leighton is seeking declaratory relief from the court, which we hope to have wrapped up in the near future," says lawyer James Spertus. Her rep had no comment.

In a previous court filing, Leighton stated that Constance took money she sent for her sick brother's care and spent it on plastic surgery and other frivolous things.

Constance counter-filed after that point, claiming that she ponied up roughly $230,000 on private school and acting classes for Leighton Meester over the years.

She also said her daughter agreed to give her $10,000 a month as she a "dependent adult" per California's Welfare and Institutions Code. Leighton denied this.

Basically, it's ugly, and we hope it gets resolved soon.

Massachusetts opens long-hidden Romney archives (AP)

WASHINGTON ? Massachusetts will make available to the public hundreds of boxes of documents from Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's term as governor that have long been locked away, the state said Tuesday. The same agency that is opening the files said it would not pursue an inquiry into the purge of electronic records at the end of Romney's term.

The moves come after disclosures that Romney had authorized the purging of emails and other closely-held electronic records at the end of administration.

The decision by the Massachusetts Secretary of the Commonwealth will ultimately make available more than 460 boxes of documents stored since 2006 in the state archives in south Boston. They were closed to public inspection because of legal uncertainty over the impact of a court ruling that said Massachusetts governor's records were not subject to disclosure.

Romney's presidential campaign aides recently cited that decision to justify the deletion of files from Massachusetts email servers at the end of his governor's term in 2007. Romney also allowed aides to buy and remove their government hard drives and authorized the replacement of leased computers in his executive offices.

A commonwealth spokesman, Brian McNiff, said agency officials decided last week to open up the archived records after a legal review that began last spring, as media and political groups have been pressing for access to the records.

"The decision was made that all of Gov. Romney's records would be made available," McNiff said.

McNiff also said Tuesday that the commonwealth would not pursue an inquiry into the purge of electronic records even though Massachusetts officials have concluded that state law required Romney's aides to have maintained the records.

Both Secretary of the Commonwealth William F. Galvin and his top legal counsel, Laurie Flynn, said recently that governor's records must be preserved under state schedules even if they do not have to be disclosed. But McNiff said there would be no examination of the circumstances surrounding the electronics records purge, which was first reported last month by the Boston Globe. McNiff would not elaborate on that decision.

Romney recently acknowledged that he approved the electronics records purge at end of his term because of concerns that the records might include confidential materials. Eric Fehrnstrom, a senior campaign adviser, said that the GOP presidential contender submitted more than 630 boxes of paper files to the state archives in late 2006 in what he said was the interest of transparency.

McNiff said that the newly released boxes of documents could be viewed only five boxes at a time, and any request to review the new material would require what he described as a short delay while archives officials reviewed the files and censored confidential material.

The documents will be reviewed in light of the 1997 Massachusetts high court ruling that exempted governor's records from state public disclosure laws. McNiff said that Romney's representatives would not be consulted during the redaction process. "They're not involved," he said.

A Romney campaign spokeswoman, Andrea Saul, noted that Romney had sent the materials to the state archives with the intent of making them available to the public.

An Associated Press examination of much of the available Romney archives holdings earlier this year suggested the material available then was far from comprehensive. More than 75 cartons reviewed by the AP included staff and legislative documents but no internal records written to or from Romney himself ? except for ceremonial bill-signing and official letters.

News organizations have pressed to view the archived Romney files. Also, the Democratic National Committee recently submitted three open-records requests to current Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, seeking to learn more background about the Romney administration's purge of emails and other electronic records.

Romney's campaign, meanwhile, has asked Patrick's office for any evidence of collusions between his staff and Obama re-election officials.

How to minimize web design expenses in your automotive business ...

It is common knowledge when you are developing a website from scratch it will cost a lot more money compare to a template. A web template is a design that is well tested in the market place, with all the common features you will look for in your industry. Take for example the automotive industry, with ever growing competition in the market place, and economic downturn. It is natural for the dealer principles actively looking for ways to save money. The big names in the automotive web development business will charge a premium amount for your custom developed website. But don?t let that word fool you, that ?custom? developed website may cost you 000 in real life is still derived from a previous template. A template doesn?t mean it is an exact copy, the hardest part of programming a website is the initial HTML, PHP, ASP code. If the design firm charged you a premium amount for your website, but reused all the code from their library including the CSS codes and even down to the structure of the pages. Only changing some graphics to make it look custom, do you still think you got a ?pretty good deal?? The hosting fees from these so called ?automotive specific? design firms can range from 0 to 0 per month, just for your website to sit on their server. On top of that any modification work major or minor will be on a separate bill. It is time for you the dealership to open your eyes, and stopping flushing your revenue down the toilet.

A template is definitely more cost effective compare to the ?custom? projects, but even then you have to do your shopping around carefully. Even some of the template providers will charge anywhere from 0-1500 for the so called ?setup? fee, and 0 to 0 per month for their template and hosting. Compare to 000 it is a noticeable saving, but what if I tell you you can get the same quality of work for much less. How much less you ask? Well what about setup fee, and per month? And all custom integration work is free, in another word it will be no money upfront, and very little per month. For the smaller dealerships who can?t afford the more expensive alternative, this will literally level the playing field. So remember the next time you are looking for an automotive specific web design firm, make sure you are not paying a premium for something that can be obtained for much less.

This article is brought to you by Dealer Template Inc; we are your automotive web design and SEO firm of choice. At least 23 dead in intensifying Syria violence (Reuters)

BEIRUT (Reuters) ? At least 23 people were reported killed in Syria on Saturday as violence intensified in the eighth month of unrest against President Bashar al-Assad, pushing the death toll close to 4,600, according to a leading activist group.

In a three-hour, night-time battle in the north-western city of Idlib near the Turkish border, seven members of the security forces, five army rebels and three civilians were killed, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said.

Five civilians were shot dead by security forces in central Homs province, and a man's body was returned to his family five days after he had been arrested.

The United Nations' top human rights forum has condemned Syria for "gross and systematic" violations by its forces, including executions and the imprisonment of some 14,000 people.

Syrian authorities say they are fighting foreign-backed "terrorist groups" trying to spark civil war who have killed some 1,100 soldiers and police since March.

An "Arab Spring" of revolts - triggered by an uprising in Tunisia in January - has reshaped the political landscape of the Middle East this year and toppled leaders in Egypt, Libya and Yemen.

Syrian opposition groups say defectors from Syria's conscript army are increasing their attacks on government security forces trying to suppress revolt against 41 years of Assad family rule.

Syria faces deepening international and regional isolation, with the Arab League, the European Union and the United States piling on increasingly tough sanctions to pressure Damascus to stop the bloodshed and talk to its opponents.

China and Russia oppose sanctions and last month scuppered Western efforts to pass a U.N. Security Council resolution condemning Assad's government.

SECURITY FORCES IN ACTION

The state news agency SANA gave a detailed account of operations by Syrian security forces, including clashes with "terrorists," arrests, the explosion of roadside bombs and the defusing of explosive devices.

It said special forces caught dozens of wanted men in the area of Tel Kalakh who had been smuggling weapons, drugs and armed men from Lebanon into Syria.

Special forces also captured 14 gunmen who, SANA said, had been killing and kidnapping civilians and soldiers.

According to the British-based SOHR, nearly a quarter of the 4,600 on its death toll are from Syrian security forces.

In Deraa, "special forces clashed with armed terrorist groups trying to attack security centers in rural parts of the province. One of the gunmen was killed in the exchange of fire," SANA reported.

"Special forces also clashed with armed terrorists in Idlib after they tried to attack a public roads building and several security detachments. Special forces were able to kill one of the gunmen and wound a number of others. One member of the security forces was injured."

Army engineers in Hama disabled two improvised explosive devices planted in the city, the agency reported.

The SANA correspondent said a source told the agency two other IEDs had exploded, one when a security patrol was passing near a sports stadium, injuring two. The second IED explosion caused no injuries.

In Lattakia, an IED exploded in front of an electrical workshop, starting a fire in which two people died, the agency reported.

NO STRATEGIC IRAN TIES POST-ASSAD

The head of the opposition Syrian National Council (SNC), said the isolation of Syria was accelerating and he was pushing for more international intervention against Damascus and seeking Russian support.

Burhan Ghalioun told the Wall Street Journal that he envisioned a post-Assad Syria distanced from anti-Western Iran and Hezbollah and would move closer to the Arab League as well as Gulf Arab states - countries that are Sunni-led and wary of Iran, which is a non-Arab, Shi'ite power in the region.

Syria has fostered close ties with Tehran since Iran's 1979 Islamic Revolution.

The United States accuses Damascus of helping Iran funnel weapons to Hezbollah, a powerful militant and political Shi'ite Muslim movement in Lebanon that fought a 34-day war against Israel in 2006.

"There will be no special relationship with Iran. This is the core issue - the military alliance," Ghalioun told the U.S. paper, though he said he did not oppose maintaining economic ties. "Breaking the exceptional relationship means breaking the strategic military alliance."

With pressure rising against Damascus, only four countries voted against the U.N. human rights forum's condemnation of Syria which sets the stage for possible action by U.N. political bodies in New York.

Russia does not want to provide the West with what it believes could be a justification for military intervention in Syria, like the NATO air campaign that helped rebels topple Libya's Muammar Gaddafi in August.

Ghalioun said the opposition is still trying to persuade Moscow that steps such creating a buffer zone, a humanitarian corridor or a no-fly zone to protect civilians would not lead inevitably to armed intervention.

"This is different than the organized military intervention that happened in Iraq for regime change," he said. "We count on Syrians to bring down the Syrian regime...We want the international community to stop the oppression of the Syrian people."

Western powers have shown little appetite for armed intervention in Syria because of the complexity of its sectarian divisions and the risk of escalation posed by its alliance with Iran.

Keith Jardine gets Strikeforce middleweight title shot

Keith Jardine gets Strikeforce middleweight title shot

Earlier this week, we mentioned that Strikeforce's first main card event for 2012 is scheduled for January 7, and that the expected main event is Tim Kennedy vs. middleweight champ Luke Rockhold. That turned out to be two thirds true.

MMA Fighting reports that the main event will actually feature Rockhold taking on Keith Jardine, not Kennedy. Jardine's last bouts were a draw with Gegard Mousasi, wins over Aron Lofton and Francisco France in smaller promotions, and then a five-fight losing streak dating back to UFC 96.

Kennedy is 4-1 in his last five fights, with the one loss coming to Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza in a title fight. He has wins over Robbie Lawlor, Melvin Manhoef, Trevor Prangley -- who Jardine lost to -- and Zak Cummings.

Yeah, I don't get it, either. I'm not the only one, as my Twitter timeline exploded with a collective, "Whaaaaa?" when the news hit late last night. Kennedy has lobbied for the title fight for months, but recently told Cagewriter that he doesn't care where he fights, as long as he fights good guys. Perhaps the Strikeforce and UFC gurus have a plan for Kennedy that we're not privy to; otherwise, there is not much logic behind this bout.
