Movie news: 'Silver Linings' meets 'The Fighter'; Mickey Mouse gets ...

David O. Russell is gathering up the stars of his Oscar-nominated movies for his next project. Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper of ?Silver Linings Playbook? join Christian Bale and Amy Adams of ?The Fighter? in an untitled drama about the FBI?s Abscam sting operation, which brought down corrupt congressmen in the 1970s and ?80s. It?s set to open here Christmas Day ? hey, just in time for awards season.

Oh, Mickey, you?re so fine

Mickey Mouse seems to be more of a corporate logo than a cartoon hero lately. In fact it has been 60 years since the squeaky rodent performed in the medium that gave him his start: cartoon shorts. At last, the Disney Channel is putting him back where he belongs in a series of 19 retro-looking shorts that will begin airing June 28. We?ve linked to the first one, a Parisian caper called ?Croissant de Triomphe,? at KansasCity.com/entertainment. Ooh-la-la!

After the ?Wedding?

Some of the best Adam Sandler movies are the ones he made with Drew Barrymore: ?The Wedding Singer? and ?Fifty First Dates.? So maybe he can pull himself out of his comedy rut (we?re talking to you, Andy Samberg!) when he reteams with Barrymore in an as-yet-untitled romantic comedy. They play a man and woman who, after a disastrous first date, get trapped together at a resort with their kids from previous marriages. Sort of like ?The Brady Bunch? in Hawaii? Frank Coraci of ?Wedding Singer? will direct.

But first, Sandler returns for the sequel to his biggest hit: ?Grown Ups 2? opens July 12.

Coming up

??Since Kristen Bell?s ?Veronica Mars? went off the air after three seasons, fans have been clamoring for a film version. So the star, along with creator Rob Thomas, launched a Kickstarter campaign. If they raise $2 million by April 12, Warner Bros. will make it happen for the teen detective.

??The next ?Adventures of Tintin? movie will begin motion-capture filming at the end of the year, but it requires so much digital work that it won?t hit theaters until December 2015, says producer Steven Spielberg. Peter Jackson will direct.
